Over the course of the summer, different families will host Kabbalat Shabbat in their home, inviting us for informal, rich, musical, harmonic Friday night davening/prayers with plenty of opportunities for schmoozing and community-building. Services will begin at 6:15 PM and end around 7:15 PM in time for people to return home for Shabbat dinner at a reasonable hour.
July 19 at 6:15 PM – Hosted by the Braun Family
August 2 at 6:15 PM – Hosted by the Bernat-Kunin Family
August 16 at 6:15 PM – Hosted by the Shimansky Family
Kabbalat Shabbat service with instruments ala “Jazz at LACMA” and then the field becomes your Shabbat table. Bring a picnic dinner, bring a card game, a kosher bottle of wine, a blanket, etc and enjoy great davening, music and community on our campus but with your taste of home.
July 26 & August 9 at 6:15 PM
August 23 at 6:00 PM – Back from Camp Shabbat with Rabbi Schatz and Moreh Dale!
(dinner reservation coming soon!)
Something different for you to try!
Note: Parallel to a clergy-led service on the 1st and 3rdShabbat mornings of the month, we will be offering this “Summer Spin” experience (where there will also be an opportunity to recite Mourner’s Kaddish)
July 20 Expanded Meditation Plus with Rabbi Shapiro: Join us for meditation, reflective practice, and rich text study as we shift and slightly expand the time of this long-time mainstay of Shabbat morning at TBA.
(Liora Manavi Bat Mitzvah in Ganzberg Sanctuary)
August 3 Taste of Torah with Rabbi Schatz: Imagine a service built for intergenerational experience and deep Torah study. We will sing some of the songs of Psukei, do the highlights of Shaharit and study the Parsha, together and in small groups, rather than read Torah and Haftarah. All of this will be appropriate for all ages. There will be tunes kids and adults know and learning for anyone who is in the room.
August 17 Shabbat Council with Rabbi Shapiro: Council is a story-sharing practice that’s been incorporated into the Pressman/TBA community for many years, and, for the first time, we’re bringing it to Shabbat morning. Join us to share, to listen, and to connect as we explore what this well-known practice offers in a new context. (Library Minyan in Ganzberg Sanctuary for Low family aufuf)
July 27 & August 3,10
In previous summers, all clergy-led services have combined together with components of the Sanctuary/Shir Hadash service and Beiteinu service present each week. This summer, we will offer something very close to that. But we are “enhancing” those services a bit. How?
9:30-9:45 AM Tot Shabbat (sing Shabbat songs and bring a morning snack with Rabbi Schatz)
9:45-10:30 AM Song-filled P’sukei and Shaharit for all ages
10:30-11:15 AM Torah service to celebrate milestones, try new honors, and learn from our tradition (for all ages)
11:15 AM(ish) Participatory Torah study to learn within community (all ages welcome, text-study geared for middle-school aged and older) Musaf and kiddush to follow
9:15 AM Mishnah Study in Whiteman Conference Room and on Zoom
9:45 AM Library Minyan Service
Traditional in its observance – but completely egalitarian, lay-led, and child-friendly.
You might not know that every Shabbat afternoon the clergy team leads minha/ma’ariv and teaches for 30-35 minutes during a light nosh for Seudah Shlishit (The third meal of Shabbat). This summer will be a bit different. Rabbi Schatz is bringing together scholars from all over Los Angeles to teach during the afternoon slot. We hope that you will join us for these great moments of learning and ending Shabbat together. Below is the schedule of scholars. Please come and join us while we bring together branches of the LA Jewish community for stellar learning:
July 20 at 7:15 PM Rabbi Joshua Katzan (Mishkon Tephilo)
July 27 at 7: 10 PM Rabbi Noam Kornsgold (Rabbinical Assembly)
August 3 at 7:00 PM Jake Petzold (Rabbinic Intern at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills)
August 10 at 6:55 PM Rabbi Chaim Singer-Frankes (Chaplain at Kaiser Permanente Panorama City Medical Center)
August 17 at 6:45 PM Rabbi Dara Frimmer (Temple Isaiah)
August 24 at 6:40 PM Rabbi Yosef Kanefsky (B’nai David-Judea)
August 31 at 6:30 PM Rabbi Chaim Tureff (Pressman Academy)
