“‘A Simple Man’ – Who Sits in Tents vs. ‘A Man of the Field.’ Who to Emulate?”

He is the rabbi, spiritual leader and Rosh Yeshivah of Abayudaya Congregation in Uganda. The first Jew from Sub Saharan Africa to be ordained at a conventional rabbinic college.
He obtained a bachelors degree in education from the Islamic university in Uganda in 1999 and was ordained at the Ziegler school of rabbinic studies in 2008.
In 2016 Gershom became the first Jew in Uganda to be elected  to a  five year term position of member of parliament where he represented the people of Bungokho county in Mbale district as a shadow minister of  refugees, relief and disaster preparedness. He sat on the committees of Health and Equal opportunities.
With his beautiful wife Tziporah, Gershom is father of five children, Igaal, Dafnah, Naavah, Zivah and Nadav Sizomu.
Gershom is also a musician and plays guitar. He wrote most of the songs in the Grammy nominated album “music from the Jewish people of Uganda”
