The Search for Sabina: Remembering the Nine Million

Who was Sabina Gutter? She was a daughter, a sister, a Jewish girl with a life ahead of her — one of nine million Jews living under Nazi oppression before the world extinguished their futures. On Yom HaShoah 2026, Stephen D. Smith — scholar, oral historian, and founding director of Our Jewish Story — will invite us to search for Sabina through a journey he took with her brother Pinchas Gutter, whose interactive holographic testimony has been preserved through USC Shoah Foundation’s Dimensions in Testimony project. Stephen will lead us in an act of memorial storytelling, bringing Sabina Gutter back into the light. Her story is a reminder the nine million Jews who struggled to survive need not be condemned to darkness, if we are willing to search for their points of light.
