We invite the full TBA family to join two meaningful experiences we will be hosting on Shabbat morning, September 6th. We will be hosting representatives from https://hillel.org.il/en/home/ (not to be confused with the American Hillel based organization, which as you know focuses on Jewish life on college campuses). This Hillel was set up to support those who were brought up in ultra-Orthodox communities in Israel and who chose to leave the strictures of such communities (for a variety of reasons) to pursue a different, more modern/contemporary Jewish life and community. As should come as no surprise, it is often not easy to leave ultra-Orthodoxy. There can be painful rupture with family. There can be recrimination from the community left behind, and feelings of guilt on the part of those who are leaving. There are emotional, psychological, spiritual and financial implications. Hillel was set up as a resource to try to meet some of those very needs.

On Shabbat morning, here are the two opportunities:

  • We will hear from Avi Neuman, part of the leadership team at Hillel (Bio attached). He will give a sermon/drash in the normal “slot,” at around 11:30 AM
  • After shul, take food from whatever kiddush you will be attending, and join in the Chapel at around 12:15 PM. Avi will then be in conversation with CEO, Yair Regev Hass and Sarah Kopp who will share parts of her own journey moving from ultra-Orthodoxy to the Jewish life she lives today.

We hope you can join for one/both of these important sessions and conversations.
