TBA Potluck Kashrut Policy

Food ground rules for outside cooks at Temple Beth Am

With TBA programming, we typically try to serve only formally supervised/hechshered food. However, we decided to make an exception to the rule for this particular event. We believe that allowing people to share food from their tradition helps to create meaningful connections, and allows our guests to contribute in a meaningful way.

We trust that you will honor these guidelines, which will be printed and posted at the event for participants to see.

Rules if you self-identify as maintaining a Kosher kitchen; meaning, you only permit kosher food in your kitchen and you maintain separate utensils for meat and dairy.

- Prepare either parve or dairy food for the event. No meat.

- Every ingredient has to be certified kosher: it must have verified Kashrut/hechsher symbol, such as (but not limited to) OU, Triangle-K, Khaf-K, etc… Exceptions are fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, non-ground spices, milk, eggs and flour.

- Do not cook food on Shabbat for this event, even if that is your custom.

- No Lashon Hara (evil, unkind speech) going on while cooking

- If you are using an oven, it must be thoroughly cleaned, manually, and then run through a self-cleaning cycle, before you begin cooking. If oven does not have self-cleaning option, please contact Rabbi Kligfeld

- All cooking utensils should be new or single use. Use tins to store/serve food.

- Stove tops need to be thoroughly cleaned, manually, until there remains no visible/physical residue of previous food items. After manual cleaning, turn burners on to highest setting for 10 minutes. Then you may use.
