Jewish Learning Community (JLC)

Our educational model aims to enrich and empower each child’s Jewish journey through developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

We foster learning journeys through an encounter with a lived Judaism rich in ideas, ritual, text and practice.

Through an encounter with their own experiences in Judaism, and in collaboration with their peers and families, our children learn experience and know, act and feel the Judaism of our past, our present and our future.

Our experiential and project-based learning framework develops our students’ capacity to express their skills for creativity, collaboration and intellectual thinking. Our students participate in meaningful exploration and exhibition that shape their personal Jewish voice, responsibility, and identity. Our curriculum weaves the integration of core Judaic knowledge, the acquisition of Hebrew language and the process of personal reflection. Our students engage meaningfully in their tradition, while developing their personal stake in their Jewish future.
We invite you to explore what our Jewish Learning Community (JLC) has to offer.

Our Community

Havdallah

Every Sunday at 9:00 a.m., our students and parents gather together to participate in a Havdallah service. Havdallah celebrates our transition from a restful Shabbat to the creative work of the rest of the week. Open to the whole community, this Havdallah experience offers us time to share with one another, celebrate birthdays and important milestones, and reflect while learning the skills of this ritual activity. Together we bring in the new week with song, music, activities and stories.

Family Engagement

Throughout the year, the JLC families participate in different programs and events as a whole family. Family engagement provides both students and parents with meaningful connected moments of learning and celebration. There are two interactive holiday programs scheduled in the Fall and the Spring which provide unique experiences in understanding Jewish holidays in a less traditional manner.

Parent Involvement

The JLC firmly believes that the partnership between the administration, faculty, and our parents helps build and strengthen our community and our learning. We encourage and welcome parent feedback and involvement.
  • Parent committee
The JLC Parent Committee meets once per month and is led by our JLC Parent Committee chair, Nancy Solomon (2nd grade and 4th grade parent)
  • JLC Committee members:
    Marc Samuels (4th grade parent)
Christina Morovati (3rd and 4th grade parent)
Liora Petel (1st grade, 6th grade, and alumni parent)
Mallory Lee (2nd grade grade parent, and JPA parent)
        • Parent Liaisons
Each JLC class is assigned a parent liaison aka a “JLC Room Parent”. These parents work with the JLC parent committee and the JLC Education Director to support additional parent communications, set-up classroom snack rotations, and be an additional resource for JLC teachers.
