Rabbi Susan Leider, Associate Rabbi

A Southern California native, Rabbi Leider received her Bachelor of Music and Masters of Fine Arts degrees from the University of California at Irvine. At the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, she earned her Master of Rabbinic Studies degree and rabbinic ordination. She has served as a rabbi at Temple Beth Am since her ordination in 2006.

Prior to her ordination, Rabbi Leider served as the Religious School Principal of the Pressman Academy, a role in which she continued until 2009. She has taught at Camp Ramah, at the Bureau of Jewish Education Religious School Educators' Conference and the University of Judaism's Take STOC program for educators. She also been a keynote speaker for the University Women at the American Jewish University and has spoken at numerous Women's League of Conservative Judaism events. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Rabbis of Southern California. At the Spertus Institute in Chicago, Rabbi Leider is a candidate for a Doctoral degree in Jewish Studies.

A Jew-By-Choice, Rabbi Leider also works closely with those in the community who are interested in conversion and returns to the Ziegler School to speak to rabbinical students about conversion. She is the spiritual leader of BAIT Tefillah, a warm, child-friendly and multi-generational weekly Shabbat morning service at TBA. Rabbi Leider, along with Francine Farkas, leads TBA family services including the monthly Kabbalat Shabbat Family Service as well as Shir Shabbat and Shir Rosh Hashanah. She also leads the annual TBA Women’s Retreat held in the Fall. In the broader Los Angeles community, she is active in OneLA, a broad-based organization of congregations, schools and non-profits committed to building power for sustainable social and economic change.

Rabbi Leider has been married to her husband Jeff since 1990 and has three children: Jessie (Pressman Academy Middle School Alumna 2006), Sarah (Pressman Academy alumna 2008) and Talia (Pressman Academy Middle School student).
