Religious School Curriculum
The Hebrew Immersion Approach Pressman Academy Religious School uses a Hebrew immersion approach in the Kindergarten -3rd grade. Each year, the school is building this approach into
another grade level, with the goal of having all Hebrew classes taught
in the Hebrew language. The curriculum outline below reflects this
trend through the school, as each year a new grade level curriculum is
adapted to the Hebrew immersion approach. The Tal Am curricular
materials used in Judaic studies consist of colorful “Big Books,” small
story books, CDs and individual student workbook. Teacher activity
boxes supplement these materials by allowing children to role play the
stories they are learning.
Music and Prayer
Each
class enjoys music with our specialist once a week and prayer on a
weekly basis. The 2nd through 7th grades join together for a
school-wide service on a monthly basis.
Shabbat Services
The Religious School community gathers twice a year for a joint Shabbat morning service and once a year for Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’ariv
on a Friday night. Students also attend ten Shabbat morning services
per year in order to meet the standard set by the “It’s Cool to Go to
Shul” program.
Grade 8 and Beyond
Students are expected to continue their Jewish studies by enrolling in Los Angeles Hebrew High following their graduation from Pressman Academy Religious School.
